What Goes Into Engineering a Wall

Building a partition wall is more complex than it appears, requiring a blend of different components to ensure it's not just a divider but a stable, compliant, and high-performing system. While often considered a simple, non-load-bearing element, a well-engineered partition is crucial for modern building functionality, especially in New Zealand, where seismic activity demands sophisticated design. PRENGUIN V5.0 is built on the understanding that each component functions as a sophisticated system in its own right.

Custom Partition Wall Systems

For non-load bearing partitions, compliance isn't the most difficult issue in construction—it's coordination. With PRENGUIN, compliance is no longer an issue. Our expertise allows us to create a robust framework of pre-engineered Product Systems once, which can then be confidently specified across multiple projects from our Certified Catalogue. This gives you the comprehensive product knowledge and engineering certainty to achieve full compliance and structural integrity with every design.

This eliminates compliance as an obstacle, freeing your team to focus on the crucial tasks of coordination and construction. As soon as a PRENGUIN system is specified, compliance is achieved.

Our certified approach to system design is built upon these core components:

  • Studs: We engineer solutions using steel studs of various widths (64mm, 76mm, 92mm, 150mm) and base material thicknesses (BMT) to create a framework that meets any structural requirement.
  • Base & Head Tracks (DHT): Our systems utilise Base Tracks and Deflection Head Tracks to securely anchor the partition. We've mastered the design of the DHT's engineered gap, ensuring the wall can accommodate structural movement—including vertical deflection from loads and horizontal inter-storey drift—without compromising the partition.
  • Bracing: We select and certify the ideal bracing solution (e.g., Tracklok, Deflok) to ensure your wall system has the necessary lateral force resistance and seismic performance.
  • Connections: We specify and certify the appropriate concrete anchors and fastening methods to guarantee the wall's overall strength and integrity.
  • Linings: We certify the use of various linings, including plasterboard for fire resistance, acoustic linings for sound dampening, and aluminium glazing for transparent partitions, to meet the specific demands of your project.

By leveraging our certified knowledge, you can create a custom partition system that is pre-checked for compliance and performance, saving you time and ensuring peace of mind.

High-Performance Partition Systems for NZ Standards

Our engineered partition systems go beyond basic functionality to deliver true Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). By focusing on the performance of each building element, we ensure compliance is achieved the moment a PRENGUIN Product System is specified. This frees your team to concentrate on the more important tasks of coordination and construction, knowing that every detail is already certified for New Zealand's unique building standards.

We provide expert insight and certified solutions for key performance functions:

Seismic Performance

Following the Canterbury and Kaikoura earthquakes, New Zealand's building philosophy evolved towards Low Damage Seismic Design (LDSD). We specialise in designing systems that meet and exceed these standards, ensuring your partitions can withstand significant seismic activity without compromising integrity or a building’s functionality.

  • Inter-storey Drift: We provide certified solutions to accommodate demanding inter-storey drift requirements, up to 2.5%, well beyond where standard partitions might fail (0.5%).
  • Customised Seismic Solutions: We offer a range of performance-driven options, from standard deflection tracks to advanced systems for the highest Importance Level 4 (IL4) buildings, such as hospitals and police stations.

Fire and Acoustic Performance

Fire safety is non-negotiable, and sound control is crucial for occupant comfort. Our systems are certified to provide the necessary Fire Resistance Ratings (FRR) and meet specific Sound Transmission Class (STC) ratings.

  • Fire Rating: We offer expert guidance on selecting appropriate linings like fire-rated plasterboard, ensuring all components work together to achieve specified fire safety performance.
  • Acoustic Rating: Our expertise covers selecting the right materials and detailing the system to eliminate sound flanking paths, making it a comprehensive sound barrier for any application.

By partnering with us, you gain access to certified product knowledge that ensures your partition walls are not just a design element but a high-performance system that complies with and often exceeds New Zealand's stringent building standards.

The Importance of a Certified Product System

By partnering with us, you can leverage our Certified Catalogue of pre-engineered systems. This means you can create, specify, and ensure compliance for a high-performance partition in a matter of seconds. Our automated and certified systems make your products easier and more accessible to have on projects, eliminating the risks associated with un-engineered solutions.
